Dr. Tony Canals
Founder / Dentist
With over 30 years working as a General Practitioner, Dr. Jose Antonio Alfonso Canals has been particularly focused on achieving a painless dentistry. Dr. Canals obtained his degree at the University of Havana, Cuba in 1983, while then immigrating to Canada in 1994. Dr. Canals has fully completed all equivalencies at the University of Toronto to become a licensed General Practitioner. Dr. Canals loves to play and watch baseball and is an active ping-pong player. He also loves 70's music.
Elizabeth Perez
Office Manager
Elizabeth was born in Cuba, where she obtained a degree in education in 1993. Soon there after, she immigrated to Canada and completed a dental assistant diploma from Career Canada College in Ottawa. As office manager, she is dedicated to bringing in quality service to all patients. Elizabeth enjoys spending time with her two children, travelling and reading.
Martha Rios
Dental Assistant
Martha Rios was born Santiago de Cuba. She graduated with a degree in dentistry in 1985. After working as a General Practitioner for 12 years. She immigrated to Canada to 1997. Martha became a level II dental assistant and has been working with Dr. Canals since the office opening in 1998. Martha is a mother of three, enjoys reading, cooking and gardening.
Dr. Claudia Marrugo
Dental Hygienist
Claudia graduated with a degree in dentistry from the University of Cartagena and was a General Practitioner for 9 years in Colombia. After settling with her family in Canada in 2004, she obtained her Dental Hygiene Diploma at George Brown College in Toronto. Claudia is very friendly, well organized, and a remarkably competent dental hygienist. She has been with us since 2007 and she strives to share her knowledge and give our patients the best oral treatment possible.
Dr. Lucia Tamburini
Dental Hygienist
Lucia was born in Dominican Republic. She graduated with a degree in dentistry from the Universidad Autonoma de Santa Domingo in 1984 and worked as a general practitioner for 15 years. She immigrated to Canada in 1999 and became a Registered Dental Hygienist at Yorkville College in 2008. She enjoys her job because it enables her to improve patients self motivation by enriching their oral health education. Her goal has always been to deliver professional, gentle and thorough dental hygiene care to all her patients. She enjoys the opportunity of sharing information, and different oral hygiene techniques that she knows will make a positive difference in their oral health.
Dr. Ramon de Leon
Dental Hygienist
Ramon is a dental hygienist from Colombia where he worked as a dentist and specialist in Periodontics and Oral medicine. He taught at the University of Cartagena in Columbia for over 9 years, after which he moved to Canada in 2004. Ramon then became a Registered Dental Hygienist from the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario. His vast clinical experience and accumulated knowledge is the result of a diverse path of self-learning and growth. He enjoys practicing at where he is able to provide patients with the highest level quality of dental hygiene care.
Lilia Alfonso
Treatment Plan Coordinator
Lilia was born in Cuba and immigrated to Canada in 1996. She graduated from Instituto Superior Pedagogico in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba in 1988 with a degree in education. She also obtained a diploma in Microcomputer Business Application from the Academy of Learning in Toronto in 1997. With 13 years working with the public at Dr. Canals dental office, Lilia offers extensive knowledge of dental treatments, insurances and rates. She is committed to providing patients with the best service and personalized payment options based on financial needs.
Ada Vazquez
Dental Receptionist
Ada Alina was born in Cuba, where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Automatic Control Engineering. She immigrated to Canada in 2009 and completed a Level II Dental Assistant Diploma from Everest College in 2011. Being the newest member to join Dr. Canals team, Ada oversees front desk duties and is always able and willing to help with other tasks if needed.
